If you are wanting that quissential native Rapa Nui tour, there is not anyone better to show you the island than Poike Riroroko.
Poike Riroroko is a native Rapanui, who was born and bred on Te Pito o te Henua (Easter Island).
Poike Riroroko has extensive knowledge of the island as he was bought up on the island by his grandparents. During his childhood he learnt from his grandparents the old teachings and traditional ways of his Rapa Nui ancestors.
Poike currently lives in Otaki, New Zealand where he is employed as a senior lecturer in Maori Studies at the University of Awanuiarangi.
Poike has a Bachelor Degree in Archaeology from Papeete University in Tahiti.
Poike is currently studying for his Masters Degree in Maori Language and Maori History at the University of Awanuiarangi, Whakatane, New Zealand.
Poike has 17 years teaching experience. His teaching background is in archaeology, Polynesian history as well as Polynesian languages.
Throughout his life Poike has attended and been involved in many Indigenous conferences where he has spoken to many people around the world on the Rapa Nui way of life, history, cultural issues and its people.

Poike has been responsible for organising many indigenous hui around the world. One of these that Poike helped develop and put in place which he is particularly proud of was a conference concerning the revival of Polynesian languages held two years ago on Te Pito o Te Henua. Poike has also extensive knowledge in rock and waka carving, Maori language and customs as well as traditional whare wiwi building. In his spare time Poike loves to surf and dive. |
